Original part and 3D part - based on the original part, we made a spare part using 3D printing

Spare parts for machines – case: Atlas Copco GA15

October 16, 2025

At AM Printservice, we often face challenges where traditional spare parts are no longer available. A recent example is an Atlas Copco GA15 compressor – a robust industrial machine with a capacity of up to 15 m³/min and a working pressure of 10 bar. When a component in the water separator valve broke, a serious operational problem arose. Without that part, the system lost its tightness and the compressed air could not be cleaned properly. The original part was out of production and the entire separator could no longer be ordered.

From idea to finished spare part with 3D printing

Our solution was to design and manufacture a new part from scratch. With the help of HP MJF Technology and PA12 material we were able to create a component that could withstand high pressure, water contact and harsh environments. The internal geometry – with small channels for airflow and drainage – was precisely recreated using 3D printing. Traditional manufacturing would have been both expensive and time-consuming, but with additive manufacturing we were able to deliver a fully functional replacement part in a short time.

The design process involved careful measurement, flow analysis, and wall thickness optimization to ensure strength and precision. The result was a component that performs as well as the original – but manufactured faster and more cost-effectively.

Tested in operation – tight, durable and functional

The new part was installed in the compressor and has been tested under full load. It is completely leak-proof, can withstand working pressure and functions as intended in contact with water and compressed air.
This project clearly demonstrates that 3D printing is not just about prototyping, but can be used to replace hard-to-reach, function-critical industrial components. With additive manufacturing, we can also iterate, improve, and adapt the design as needed – with minimal material waste.

Fast and reliable industrial solutions

With our professional 3D printing services, we can respond quickly to machine breakdowns. We design and produce unique, functional parts that are no longer available on the market – helping industrial companies avoid long downtimes and unnecessary costs.
The MJF technology provides high precision, and the PA12 material meets the requirements of heavy industry – with precise geometries, fine surfaces and full reliability.

Why choose AM Printservice?

Our work on the Atlas Copco GA15 compressor shows how 3D printing can be a concrete and effective solution to production problems. We manufacture parts that are resistant to pressure, fluids and wear – and that allow machines to continue to perform.
At AM Printservice you get speed, precision and industrial quality at every step.

3D printing is not the future – it is the present. We help you keep production running when spare parts are missing.
