What are 3D printed drones?
3D printing for drones means using plastic-based 3D printing technology to manufacture custom parts with high precision and speed.
With durable materials like PA12 (nylon) you can create sturdy components for your drones that are perfectly suited for harsh outdoor environments and long-term use.
With the latest 3D printing technology, AM Printservice offers an efficient solution for your drone development and manufacturing that is both flexible and scalable.
The benefits of 3D printed drones
Complex shapes: Create advanced geometries that can't be manufactured with traditional technologies, like milling.
Weight optimization: Reduce your part weight - crucial for optimal performance
Flexible manufacturing: Only print what you need to cut costs and warehousing needs
Sustainability: 3D print generates a minimum of waste and all production is local
3D printed drones: How it works
We have developed an efficient ordering process that guarantees high quality and fast deliveries:
- Design & optimization - We develop optimized models for maximum performance and durability
- 3D print - With HP's Multi Jet Fusion technology we manufacture up to 100 small drones in less than 24 hours
- Finishing - All parts undergo a rigorous finishing process with sand blasting and coloring for UV protection. This enables use in harsh outdoors environments.
FAQ: 3D printing for drones
Which materials do you use?
We use the durable material PA12 (nylon), perfect for drone parts that need to withstand tough conditions.
How fast can you deliver printed parts?
With Multi Jet Fusion technology, we can produce up to 100 small drones in less than 24 hours, making this technology ideal for fast deliveries.
Can I use 3D printed drone parts outdoors?
You most certainly can - our printed parts are colored with UV protected dye and are designed to withstand harsh outdoor environments.
CASE: Optimized drone model
In cooperation with IMA we developed a project focusing on 3D printing and new materials for drone parts production.
The goal was to create an optimized model perfectly suited for drone production. Using 3D printing technology, we were able to print 90 drone frames in just 16 hours in a single job.
After printing, the frames were cooled and then sandblasted and cleaned in the automatic CCP 20 Mega Drum device from AM Efficiency. The full process consisted of four steps:
- 3D design and optimization
- 3D printing
- Blasting and cleaning
- Coloring in black with a special UV protecting paint.
